Bang for your buck By John
I recieved my radio last friday. The programming is a little difficult using a computer or programming directly from the radio but a couple phone call to Powerwerx and the gentleman on the phone was awesome at helping me. Downloading the code plug and everything else for programming was a breeze.
After I the programming was complete I hit a local FM repeater and I was WOWED by the audio coming out of the front of this HT. I recieved great reports then I moved in to try the DMR that had to wait till Saturday due to waiting for my DMR ID. Programmed the HT and connected to the OHIO talk group and once again I was floored on how well the sound quality is one this little HT. Once again I recieved great reports on the modulation on the Anytone AT-D878UVII.
The factory battery on the DMR side so far I get 5 hours of constant use. On the FM side so far it's about 8 hours of constant use. The spare battery I purchased gets almost 3 hours more constant use than the factory battery.. The HT fits perfectly in my hand (i wear a large glove) its moderate in weight. It weighs about as much as the old icom V85.
The volume knob feels tight and the channel knob it tight with hard clicks which I like because I know theres not going to be any accidental channel changes.
The display is customizable. You can upload 2 pictures from your computer to the HT for your back ground and for the main operating display you can customize the colors of each line on the screen.
The only thing I am disappointed about this radio is the only way it can be charged is by the charging base. Anytone did not put any charging ports on the HT. And to program frequencies manually on the radio is a little challenging at first but after you do one successfully it gets easier. And lastly the HT come with the front key pad locked per FCC rules you have to have a computer to unlock it.
Even with the above dislikes I still give this HT 5 stars. You definitely get your moneys worth and then some out of this little HT.
