Good, solid, communications tool By
I use this mostly for ARES public service events.  Battery lasts me 2 days during MS-150 events.  Great audio, and very solidly built - it already survived a hard drop that I thought was "lights out".  Fairly easy to program, especially using the optional software.  It used to be on the CAP compliant list, but CAP's old, prejudiced, short-sighted snobs took it off the list - they really don't know what they're doing - it's a shame (I'm a CAP communications officer).  This is not Chinese junk - this is a good quality tool.  Finally, Powerwerx has excellent tools/help and their tech support is very responsive.

Good Radio For The $$$ By
Having had numerous radios over the years for SAR and HAM operations, I've put out thousand of dollars in radios. I've used Motorola's and Icom mostly. The KG-UV6X is a very decent radio for it's cost. It is not easily field programmable like many of the brand name HAM units out there and there is no way to keep the back light on for more than a few seconds at a time. Other than that it performs very well. P.s. Get the upgraded antenna...

KG-UV6X Great Radio for mixed operations By
We have used the radios for operations in the AAR and MURS bands with great success.  Long battery life, good modulation, great audio, and seem to be very rugged in surviving those unforseen drops.  Great moderatly priced accessories.  Will be looking at purchasing another 6 radios in 2015.

Great all around radio By
I got this radio after being it recommended by several other fellow CAP members.  I bought it for the intention of using only for CAP, but I now am using it for FRS and HAM channels as well.  It has plenty of room for channels, power, and range to do all I need and more.  Already recommending this radio to several others.

If your not sure if you should trust the radio, BUY IT! By
While skeptical about the product I took a chance. Great receiver, great audio both in and out, fair wide band stock antenna but a rather slow processor.

If this is your work radio it's great. If your looking for a scanner filled with 200 channels it will disappoint. After all, it's a commercial radio not a scanner or a ham radio.

It will do anything you want it to. I hardly ever drop my radios but this one has been an exception. It has held up fine.

Would I purchase another? YES!!! I like the radio better than some of the ICOM radios and some of the Moto radios. Easy to program using the optional software "I did not try the free version"

If it had a faster processor I would give it a 5 out of 5.

Go ahead, buy it. I know you want to!

Great radio, great support By
Powerwerx has excellent tools/help for any problems that you might encounter.  Tech support is very responsive.  The programming software is simple and easy to use.  I found the MENU+SD puts me in frequency mode (where I can direct program freqs via the keyboard while on the go.  The RPT key allows me to easily add offsets.

KG-UV6X By
It would be nice if 'optional' was explained a little better.  The keyboard is locked and requires the 'optional' USB cable to release it.

Awsome radio By
I got this radio because of another employee that told be about it. I have to say that this radio is very cool. It is small and light weight which is nice and you don't have to break the bank buying it. If you want a Kenwood or Motorola then go buy one, plus you're going to have to find someone to program it. With Wouxun all you have to do is download the proper software and get the programming cable and you are good to go. You can program and/or change the freq. on your radio at anytime from your computer, you can do it from your portable but very time consuming. You can also talk on VHF or UHF, if you buy Kenwood or Motorola you don't get that option you either have VHF or UHF. Plus 199 channels it a lot of freq.'s. It takes time getting use to it but once you do, it works like a PRO.

Wouxun keeps getting better! By
This UV6X is a top notch HT radio! I really like my UV3D, but after programing the UV6X and using it for a while, I just say WOW, I love this radio! It's very solidly built, and the sound quality is as good as it gets! The programing software is a free download, and does take some time, if you have a lot of frequencies to load into memory, but this is the radio you want if you do have a lot of channels to load! A possible total of 199 different channels, which is awesome. Simply, this is a great radio!

Very nice radio for ham/public safety combined use By
I expected much less from this radio, but it's really a great unit - especially at this price.  I ran it past my station analyzer and it met or exceeded all published (and FCC) specs.  The receivers are HOT, audio is great both TX and RX.

Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, the PF buttons don't program as the manual says they will, and it's a little less intuitive than most ham HTs. (But still not as user hostile as some.)

Great Radio!!!!!! By
Bought a few for the management team to try out and everyone so far really likes them. Including the features that can be programmed into them.
Programming via computer is simple. One of the managers dropped his radio from about 18' and landed on the front upper left corner by the antenna. The antenna snapped off at the base of the threads. leaving the dielectric intact. I slid the antenna back on, and it still worked!!!!  I'm ordering more of these radios

They keep getting better By
If you are needing a radio for public service and amateur radio, this is the one to get.  Full FCC compliance makes it idea for the new narrowband frequencies coming out.  I had orginally purchased a "3" but returned it the next day because it would not program down to 2.5kHz.  Well worth the extra money.  Can't wait to see what their mobile units will be like.
